Natural Skin Care Tips for Summer - beyond SPF

Most people are aware of the risk from over exposure of the skin to UV rays that exist in sunlight. Protecting your skin and lips from UV rays is definitely very important, however there are additional factors that affect our skin during the summertime that should be considered such as being more outdoors, increased sweat due to humidity, and exposure to Chlorine in swimming pool water. So what should we do to keep our skin healthy, glowing, and silky?

1. Clean your skin using natural moisturizing soap. Heat causes the sebaceous glands to produce excess oil, and hot humid conditions invoke our body cooling mechanism: sweat. Damage may be caused by dust that is trapped on the oils covering the skin. These conditions require more frequent cleaning. Using poor quality soap made with chemicals may therefore result in irritated and dry skin. Wash your face twice a day with a moisturizing soap made with natural moisturizers such as olive oil and glycerin.

2. Exfoliate daily. Use soap that contains an exfoliant like fruit seeds, or a natural delicate scrub made of natural sugar and nourishing oils that keeps the skin hydrated. Exfoliating will remove dead skin cells resulting in more delicate and smooth skin.

3. Hydrate and Nourish. Keeping your skin hydrated is important in conditions that cause excess perspiration. However tap water includes some Chlorine and swimming pool water typically is loaded with it. And when you wash your skin, not only sweat but also the skin’s protective oil layer gets washed away. After hydrating, use lotion enriched with vitamin E to restore the skin’s natural protection.

4. Use bath and beauty products that contain Peppermint essential oil. Use Peppermint soap to feel cool and fresh, throw a peppermint herbal bath bag in bath water, and apply Peppermint lotion to keep the feeling going.
