We use a Cold Process technique to
make our olive oils soaps. The name Cold Process describes the
chemical reaction made between a blend of oils and lye solution
(Sodium Hydroxide and water): the fats and oils react with the
lye solution slowly over the course of few weeks to produce
hard soap. This “slow cooking” is made with no external
heat – hence the term “Cold Process”. In fact
– some heat is emitted out of the mixture during the first
24 hours – what is also known as an exothermic reaction.
A cold process soap made with a very large percent of olive
oil comes out very mild and is called Castile Soap (named after
a region in Spain where soaps were made from olive oil around
the 13th century).
Our baby soap is Castile Soap made from 100% olive oil.
